As Transgender people, we know that we have never been fully included in the fight for LGBTQ equality. A few persons at Join the Impact recognized this fact, and asked that a section of Join the Impact be created to bring awareness to the issues which we as trans menand women face, and how some of these issues are specific to our community, differing from those issues that the GLB's face. Join the Impact is a website which was created to bring the LGBTQ together. Their Mission Statement, in part, says: "In an effort to make a positive impact in the lives of our community, our allies, and even our opposition......Our movement seeks to encourage the LGBTQ community not to look towards the past and place blame, but instead to look forward toward what needs to be done now to achieve one goal: Full equality for ALL...... Our mission is to encourage our community to engage our opposition in a conversation about full equality and to do this with respect, dignity, and an attitude. At JoinTheImpact, we are all inclusive. " Although we stand up at all the rally's and the protests for the gay and lesbian community, (and the gatherings are usually larger with many supporters), how often do the gays and lesbians stand up at OUR rally's and protests? Sexual orientation and gender identity are two entirely separate issues. Transgender men and women can identify as gay, lesbian and bi too, as well as heterosexual. We are included in the fight for the right to marry. But the issues we face on a daily basis are neglected in this latest fight. Focus on the "T" was created to bring awareness of the transcommunity, and educate the GLB (as well as any one who visits the JTI website) on our specific issues regarding housing, employment, health concerns, hate crimes, identity documents and more, that we face on a daily basis. The Focus on the "T" section needs your voices to be heard. Help us educate, in hopes that one day the "T" can be an equal within the GLBT communtity. Visit and participate Focus on the "T"
